2002: American Idol debuts on Fox

Originally titled American Idol: The Search for a Superstar, it quickly became one of the most influential programs of the last decade. Idol sparked a trend of musical competition shows, and introduced America to future stars including Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, and Smash lead Katharine McPhee.

Does the cosmic alignment of our debuting this site on Idol’s 10-year anniversary mean that we, too, shall reshape the zeitgeist in our own image and become bankable stars? We’re not sure, but we’re getting fitted for Marilyn Monroe wigs just in case.  -A.D.

Today’s Birthdays: Peter Dinklage, Joffrey-slapper (43); Joshua Jackson, Pacey of Infinite Earths (34); Shia LaBeouf, Disney star and McKinley High mascot (26); Hugh Laurie, Wooster booster (53); Dr. Mehmet Oz, Oprah acolyte (52).
