This Was Television On June 17

1994: O.J. Simpson leads the LAPD on a low-speed freeway chase

Wanted in connection with the murder of his ex-wife and her friend, Simpson, Al Cowlings, and their white Ford Bronco SUV created one of the most indelible pieces of news footage in American pop culture. The event captured so much attention that NBC even cut away from Game 5 of the NBA Finals to follow the pursuit. It was memorably parodied by Seinfeld later that year, as well as by Arrested Development over a decade later.

Normally, this is the part where This Was Television On attempts a clever quip. However, all attempts to mine humor from O.J. Simpson infringe on patents held by Jay Leno since 1995, and we just can’t risk scrapping with that guy’s lawyers.  A.D.
