1876: Wild Bill Hickok is murdered in Deadwood
The lawman and gunfighter of legend was playing poker in a saloon in the Dakota Territory town when Jack McCall shot him in the back of the head. 128 years later, the incident would figure prominently into some of the most acclaimed TV drama of the modern era.
A prominent figure in Old West lore, Wild Bill’s storyline on Deadwood was only the most recent of his various depictions on television, which include the 1950s series The Adventures of Wild Bill Hicock and one shocking and notoriously off-brand episode of Dora The Explorer. -A.D.
