1997: America goes down to South Park
The polarizing, black-comic cartoon grabbed attention from its very first episode, “Cartman Gets An Anal Probe.” The brainchild of Trey Parker and Matt Stone has since assaulted good taste and social convention for 16 seasons (and a movie), satirizing politics, celebrity culture, and…well, just about everything else in America.
South Park’s distinctive animation style originally used characters made out of construction paper, a method which has been replicated by every show on The CW as a cost-saving measure. -A.D.
