1932: The Beeb hits the boob tube
The British Broadcasting Corporation produced its first experimental television broadcast over a 30-line mechanical system developed by Scottish inventor John Logie Baird. According to the BBC’s official history, Logie himself was one of the stars of that first program.
After beginning broadcast operations a decade prior, the first successful foray into television programming was one of the most significant technological achievements in the Beeb’s history, second only to its development of the TARDIS in 1963. -A.D.
