1982: St. Elsewhere opens its doors
As we learned yesterday, 1982 was a good year for the debuts of series that only existed within the dreamscapes of an unconscious character. But whether or not the events of St. Elsewhere “really” happened or were only dreamed up by young Tommy Westphal, the medical drama was nevertheless a critical hit for NBC in the 1980s. Among the doctors on call at Boston’s fictional St. Eligius hospital were Ed Begley, Jr., William Daniels, Alfre Woodard, David Morse, and a young Denzel Washington in one of his first major roles. -A.D.
