1954: Walt Disney debuts his wonderful world
The Walt Disney Company has had a presence on network TV for over half a century thanks to this anthology series which has operated under several names and on several channels. Beginning on ABC as Disneyland, the show was originally hosted by Walt himself and featured an assortment of the studio’s animated and live-action offerings, such as the popular tales of Davy Crockett. It spent most of the 1960s and ’70s on NBC, along with shorter stints on CBS, ABC, and Disney Channel. Since 2012 it has aired on Disney Junior.
The program is most commonly known as The Wonderful World of Disney, but has also gone by Walt Disney Presents, The Magical World of Disney, and during a brief basic cable run Tyler Perry’s Walt Disney’s World. -A.D.
