1952: Hockey Night in Canada drops the puck

The weekly telecasts and analysis of National Hockey League matches has been a constant in Canada for 60 years, making it of the longest-tenured programs currently on the air anywhere in the world. The franchise has been around since 1931, beginning life on radio before debuting its TV version on the CBC on this date.

Over its six decades, Hockey Night in Canada‘s Saturday night broadcasts have become a national tradition on par with America’s Monday Night Football or the United Kingdom’s Wot Now, Spot of Cricket This Sunday Guv’nor?-A.D.
