1998: The Powerpuff Girls debuts
A multiple Emmy-winner, the animated adventures of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup began a six-season run on Cartoon Network. The Powerpuff Girls followed three superpowered kindergartners through a candy-colored array of world-saving and villain-punching, leavened with manic comedy and winking pop culture satire. The series was one of the most popular contributors to Cartoon Network’s shift into original programming in the late 1990s. -A.D.
