The second-season All in the Family episode “Cousin Maude Visits” featured the first appearance of Edith’s cousin Maude Findlay. Played by Bea Arthur, the brassy liberal foil to Archie Bunker’s cantankerous conservative received a popular, eponymous spin-off the following year. -A.D.
