1975: Live from New York, it’s Richard Pryor
The legendary stand-up hosted the seventh episode of Saturday Night Live, bringing two of titans of 1970s counter-culture comedy. Pryor’s reputation inspired NBC to demand that the live broadcast include a five-second tape delay, to keep any salacious or profane material from making it on the air—one of the few times the network issued such an order during SNL‘s nearly four decade history. -A.D.
