1981: Pat Sajak first plays the Wheel

Pat Sajak, then a local TV weatherman in Los Angeles, hosted his first episode of Wheel of Fortune, taking over for Chuck Woolery, whose seven-year tenure had ended three days prior. Except for a brief departure in 1989 to host an ill-fated late night talk show, Sajak has hosted the venerable game show for over three decades since. -A.D.
