1975: Cher premieres
After parting ways from both her husband, Sonny Bono, and their popular variety show, The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, Cher found brief success with her own eponymous program. Cher launched with a star-studded special featuring appearances by Elton John, Bette Midler, and Flip Wilson. The show was a ratings hit and collected four Emmy awards during its two seasons, but ran for less than one calendar year before Cher reunited (professionally) with Bono for the return of The Sonny & Cher Show in 1976. -A.D.
