1970: McCloud hits the Big Apple

Dennis Weaver portrayed Sam McCloud, a U.S. Marshal from rural New Mexico who winds up on assignment in the unfamiliar confines of New York City, in this crime drama. The pilot, “Portrait of a Dead Girl,” found the cowboy-influenced law officer escorting a prisoner from the Land of Enchantment to the Empire City, only to get mixed up in an intricate murder investigation. It lead to a series pick up the following fall and a seven-season run on NBC, primarily in the rotation of the network’s NBC Mystery Movie franchise, which also included contemporary detective mainstays like Columbo and McMillan & Wife-A.D.
