1955: Space Patrol concludes
An episode titled “The Atomic Vault” concluded a televised run of five years and over 1,100 episodes for the Space Age children’s program. Shortly after beginning as a local L.A. show, the adventures of 30th century interstellar do-gooders was quickly picked up by ABC. The vast majority of episodes were 15 minutes long, with the remainder a full half-hour, and a radio version also ran concurrently. Despite being targeted at kids, it eventually became one of early TV’s most popular Saturday shows. -A.D.
