1974: Nova debuts

The winner of multiple Emmys and Peabody Awards, produced by WGBH in Boston, has aired for over 40 seasons and 700 episodes. The popular science documentary has explored topics ranging from Egyptian mummies to string theory to climate change, all with a clear and accessible approach. One of the most popular and consistent performers for the Public Broadcasting Service, it is also carried in more than 100 countries outside the U.S. Nova was created by Michael Ambrosino and inspired by a British program, Horizon-A.D.
