2002: The Osbournes debuts
The MTV reality program applied an Ozzie and Harriet-esque filter to the antics of decidedly un-wholesome heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne and his family. A surprise smash hit, the day-to-day lives of the former Black Sabbath singer, his wife Sharon, and their kids Kelly and Jack became one of the most popular programs in MTV’s history. Ozzy’s waning popularity was briefly revived in the early ’00s as a result, with his shambling, mumbling demeanor on the program becoming a pop culture meme. -A.D.
