1989: COPS comes for you
The longest-tenured program in the history of the Fox network, COPS is also one of the longest-running shows in TV history. The documentary-style series, a precursor to the reality TV genre which would blossom in the 1990s and 2000s, COPS followed officers in cities across America through their day-to-day duties. Its run of 25 seasons and counting has included nearly 900 episodes. -A.D.
