2007: Stargate SG-1 closes
The sci-fi series, based on the 1994 film Stargate and heavily influenced by various world mythologies, concluded a run of 10 seasons and over 200 episodes. Richard Dean Anderson starred as the head of a military special forces team which used ancient alien technology to explore and study the universe in order to fend off extraterretrial threats. After five seasons on Showtime, Stargate SG-1 moved to the Sci-Fi Channel for the second half of its tenure, and also found an audience by airing in syndication nearly concurrently with its original run. -A.D.
