1950: Beat the Clock debuts
The popular game show tasked contestants with completing a variety of puzzles or stunts within a 60-second time frame, as counted down by a giant ticking clock. Part of the prolific Goodson-Todman stable, Beat the Clock first ran for eight years on CBS and three subsequent years on ABC, ending its original incarnation in 1961. Eight years later it was revived in syndication; it was retooled in several other versions and aired on various networks until as recently as 2003. -A.D.
