2005: Grey’s Anatomy debuts

The medical drama centered on a diverse ensemble of doctors at the fictional Seattle Grace hospital began a run that’s presently reached nine seasons and nearly 200 episodes. A consistent ratings hit for ABC, the show’s success helped elevate creator and showrunner Shonda Rhimes to prominence. It also yielded a spinoff, Private Practice, which ran for six seasons. -A.D.
