1999: Futurama debuts
The animated sitcom from Simpsons creator Matt Groening followed a dimwitted pizza delivery boy from the present-day to the year 3000, where he befriends a crew of misfits including aliens, robots, and his own aged descendant. The satirical show originally aired on Fox until 2003. After finding a larger audience in repeats, it was revived in 2008 for its current ongoing run on Comedy Central, which has lifted the show to over 120 episodes after seven seasons. -A.D.
