1987: Biography is revived

A short-lived CBS series which originally ran from 1961–64 found new life on cable’s A&E Network. Profiling everyone from artists and entertainers to heads of state to scientists to fictional characters, Biography was so successful that in 1999 it inspired its own spin-off network, The Biography Channel. A&E continued to air new episodes of the series until 2006, but since then its network offspring has been the show’s primary home. Biography also sparked a wave of similar docudrama style programs in the 1990s, such as VH1’s Behind the Music and E!’s True Hollywood Story-A.D.

Today’s Birthdays: Zach Braff, doctor (38); Candace Cameron Bure, eldest sister (37); Eliza Coupe, type-A (30); Ivan Dixon, POW (d. 2008); Bret Harrison, neighbor (31); Marilu Henner, cabbie (61); Jason Hervey, elder brother (41); Phil Leeds, character actor (d. 1998); Charlie McDermott, elder brother (23); John Ratzenberger, mail carrier (66); Roy Thinnes, alien fighter (75).
