1947: Kraft Television Theatre debuts
The NBC anthology series began a run of 11 seasons and 650 episodes. The hour-long program showcased a different dramatic teleplay each week, following one of the most popular and successful formats in the early days of network television. Contributors to Kraft Television Theatre‘s roster included James Dean, Grace Kelly, Jack Lemmon, Cloris Leachman, Sidney Lumet, Rod Serling (who won an Emmy for his script), and many more future TV and cinema stalwarts. -A.D.
